PRACTICING Stitching with beads
Normally a thread of the same color of the fabric you stitch on is used, specially when you attactch separate beads. Working on an area stitched only with one color , use that same color for beads. Always use a cotton thread, never a silk or metallic one.
If you use a sharp needle pay attention not to split the threads of the fabric.
Secure the beads very well in place. Beads can be heavier than you think and they will drop instead of standing up.

If you want to attach beads in the direction of the upper half cross attach them in the following way:
Anchor the thread very firmly. Line the beads with hole from c to d. Bring the thread up at c, thru the hole and back in b. Now up with the two strands in d and split the threads so that one goes on each side of the bead and back in a. Secure the thread or go on to the next bead. Don't carry the thread over a long distance or it will loosen up and beads will get floppy.

To have the beads lie horizontally do the following:
lie the bead so that the hole runs from bottom to top.
Bring your threads up at c, go thru the hole and come down at b (don't worry, the next half of the stitch will make it lie the correct way). Now come up at d, again pass your needle from the bottom hole (that one that will lie on the c-d side) and come down at a. An horizontal bead that won't slip sideways or up and down.

To have the beads lie vertically do the following: place the bead so that the hole runs from side to side. Come up at c, thru the hole and down at b. Now come up at d, go thru the hole on the b-d side (the opposite of attatching a horizontal bead) How many beads in a Mill Hill blister?
