SOME IDEAS TO GET PERSONAL PROJECTS

Use another background fabric instead of that suggested on the chart: change from 14 ct aida to 28 ct linen for example. If linen is to difficul use a higher count aida. In this changing, pay always attention to some stitches who need specific fabrics. As when stitching one on one or for complicated stitches who need to be embroidered on linen or evenwave fabric.

Change the color of the fabric: always check color of the threads are matching with that of fabric. You could become aware that that marvelous tan color so bright on a ivory linen disappears on natural linen or nut evenwave fabric. If only one color is not matching you could very easyly substitute it with another more suitable. Sometimes the changing of fabric color completly modify the final resul..Be carefull!

If you are stitching an old sampler, always add a couple of simbols related to you: Some examples of meaning of simbols frequently used in old samplers.
Shamrock or trilobate flowers or group of three flowers: trinity. Pansy is associated to Queen Eliabeth I.

Strawberries: perfect virtue.
Honeysuckle: everlasting faith.
Pinks: love.
Lily: purity and heaven: related to Virgin Mary and to France.
Rose: love, related also to the araldic meaning of the Tudor English Rose.
Pomegranate: hope for an eternal life in christian meaning; for jewish related to God and Torah, more generally life and fertitlity; with an historical meaning araldic signs for Catherine of Aragon.

You could stitch a religious symbol or something related to you as name, job, hobby, loved pet or a lucky symbol. Meaning of names can give interesting cues.

Changing complexion or hairs colors of the charted figures: you may need to change some other colors.

Changing some stitches can be another way. Fill in a border of a cross stitch project with long stitches. You can add movement to a design using different stitches from cross-stitch. Charts should represent only a starting point to begin from for a real personal project.
