PRACTICING Waste canvas
What is waste canvas?

Waste canvas is a rather stiff material - between mono-canvas and aida cloth - used in conjunction with woven or knit fabrics to supply an evenweave base for cross-stitching. It is usually used for clothing like sweatshirts and socks. The working method is to baste the canvas on the garment, stitch the design, remove the canvas, leaving the design on the fabric.
Waste canvas comes in different count 10 and 14 with a blue thread running throughout the fabric every 10 stitches. (cod. CS9113: 10 ct 30x46 cm - Cod. CS9115: 14 ct 30 x 46 cm

Working with waste canvas can be very funny: normally are very small motifs, then very quick to be accomplished or because the stitching is for a cloth.
1- For first usage of waste canvas we suggest to choose a small and simple design, with few or none backstitch.

2- Cut waste canvas in a bigger size than the design to stitch.

3- Baste the canvas on the fabric in the right position. Use small basting stitches, not only around the piece but also in regular spaces of 5 stitches in both directions on the whole canvas or if you prefer along the diagonals and in the middle in both directions. In such a way the canvas will keep still. Remove the basting while you stitch.

4- Pay attention to position of canvas check it is central considering the stitching area.

5- You could decide to use a light interfacing on the inside of the garment to give more stability to waste canvas.

6- Use a sharp needle instead of a tapestry needle to get the needle through the fabric of the item easily.
